Volunteering
AnimeFEST! is a fan volunteer run non-profit organization with no paid
employees. We rely solely on the kindness of fellow anime fans and
con-staffers to manage every aspect of the convention.
Last year we had a staff of around 80 volunteers. This year we are
estimating a need for over 150 people!
If you would like to volunteer for AnimeFEST!2003 you can check in at convention
operations to see if we have need of any more help.
What are the qualifications?
- Willing and able to work a minimum of 12 hours during or before the
convention. During the convention this is typically broken into 3 or 4
hour shifts. Tasks may be available to perform prior to the convention
thus allowing you to attend this convention for free with no further
commitments.
- Be at least 16 years old and have proof of your age. If you have
any questions regarding type of acceptable proof, please contact
staffdiva@animefest.org.
- Attend the pre-convention staff meeting on Saturday August 23rd at the
Hotel Inter-Continental, Dallas. (Exceptions will be made for out-of-town
volunteers, but please let us know if you can't make it.)
- Prior convention staff experience is a plus, but not required (please
let us know about any prior experience).
What's in it for me?
- Free admission to the convention.
- Ability to purchase the staff t-shirt.
- Ability to register for staff crash space for volunteers over the age of 18.
We provide a limited number of staff hotel rooms, so sign up before the convention.
At the time of sign up, the rules for crash space will be discussed. All crash space
requests must be made no later than August 18, 2003.
General Rules
- People come to a convention to have fun, so we expect everyone to be
on their best behaviours and treat attending members with the same courtesy
the volunteer would expect for themselves. Kindness begets kindness and
rudeness begets rudeness.
- When you are scheduled for a shift, AnimeFEST expects you to be there
and sign in.
- If you cannot make your shift, or cannot avoid being late, call ahead
and let the department manager know so that we can work around the problem
so that everyone is treated fairly.
- If you are working a shift and the next person does not show up, please
let the department manager know and be patient for a solution.
- All staff must abide by the Convention rules.
- AnimeFEST and it's staff are not responsible for misplaced, lost or stolen
personal items.
- All staff members must complete the Staff Form prior to receiving a badge,
this includes a signed statement that you have read and received a copy of the
volunteer rules.
