Volunteering

AnimeFest is a fan volunteer run, non-profit organization. We rely on the kindness of fellow anime fans and con-staffers to manage every aspect of the convention.

What are the qualifications?

  • Willing and able to work a minimum of 16 hours during or before the convention. During the convention this is typically broken into 3 or 4 hour shifts. Tasks may be available to perform prior to the convention thus allowing you to attend this convention for free with no further commitments.
  • Be at least 16 years old and have proof of your age. If you have any questions regarding type of acceptable proof, please contact volunteer @ animefest.org.
  • Attend the pre-convention staff meeting August 16th at Noon at the AnimeFest clubhouse in Richardson. Exceptions can be made for out-of-town volunteers, but please let us know if you can't make it.
  • Prior convention staff experience is a plus, but not required (please let us know about any prior experience).

What's in it for me?

At 16 Hours of Volunteer Time:
  • Free AnimeFest 2008 membership.
  • Eligible to purchase staff t-shirts.
  • Listed in the program book (if confirmed as a volunteer at time of printing; ~Aug 1)
At 24 Hours of Volunteer Time:
  • Hotel room shared with three other Volunteers (same gender) from Friday night through Monday morning during the convention. Volunteer must be 18 or older at the time of the convention.
We are working on a better solution for volunteer parking this year. Using valet parking did not work out very well.

General Rules

  • People come to a convention to have fun, so we expect everyone to be on their best behaviours and treat attending members with the same courtesy the volunteer would expect for themselves. Kindness begets kindness and rudeness begets rudeness.
  • When you are scheduled for a shift, AnimeFest and your manager expect you to be there on time and remain for the duration of your shift.
  • If you cannot make your shift, or cannot avoid being late, call ahead and let the Operations know so that we can work around the problem so that everyone is treated fairly.
  • If you are working a shift and the next person does not show up, please call Operations and be patient for a solution.
  • All staff must abide by the Convention rules.
  • AnimeFest, it's staff and volunteers are not responsible for misplaced, lost or stolen personal items.

Sounds good, what do I do?

Glad you asked! If you are qualified and interested, please fill out the Volunteer Form.
