Volunteering
AnimeFest is a fan volunteer run, non-profit organization.
We rely on the kindness of fellow anime fans and
con-staffers to manage every aspect of the convention.
What are the qualifications?
- Willing and able to work a minimum of 16 hours during or before the
convention. During the convention this is typically broken into 3 or 4
hour shifts. Tasks may be available to perform prior to the convention
thus allowing you to attend this convention for free with no further
commitments.
- Be at least 16 years old and have proof of your age. If you have
any questions regarding type of acceptable proof, please contact
volunteer @ animefest.org.
- Attend the pre-convention staff meeting August 16th at Noon at the
AnimeFest clubhouse in Richardson. Exceptions can be made for
out-of-town volunteers, but please let us know if you can't make it.
- Prior convention staff experience is a plus, but not required (please
let us know about any prior experience).
What's in it for me?
At 16 Hours of Volunteer Time:
- Free AnimeFest 2008 membership.
- $12 in parking/DART/TRE reimbursements (see below).
-
- Eligible to purchase staff t-shirts.(if we have them)
- Listed in the program book (if confirmed as a volunteer at time of
printing; ~Aug 1)
At 24 Hours of Volunteer Time:
- Hotel room shared with three other Volunteers (same gender) from Friday
night through Monday morning during the convention. Volunteer must be 18
or older at the time of the convention.
We are working on a better solution for volunteer parking this year.
Using valet parking did not work out very well.
Parking
We are offering ALL staff members, who are working more than 16 hours, the opportunity
to expense up to $12 worth of DART, TRE, or parking receipts. We would like to encourage
everyone that will be commuting to the convention to park at a rail station and take the train.
Parking is free at most stations and the train is $3 per day round trip. Please do not park
overnight at the rail station as this is not allowed and you may be towed or ticketed.
That's $12 total for the weekend per staff member. We must have (and keep) the receipts. The
receipts must show dates between Thurs and Mon during the convention. If you chose to park at a
downtown lot it is unlikely that you will find parking cheap enough for $12 to cover more than
one or two days. We would suggest that if you really must drive to the convention that you carpool
with other volunteers such that the $12 per person will cover the full cost. Please note that the
$5 parking at Reunion Arena does not offer a receipt and therefore we cannot reimburse you for this.
There are other lots near Union Station which have in the past offered $4/day parking and have an
attendant who can get you a receipt.
General Rules
- People come to a convention to have fun, so we expect everyone to be
on their best behaviours and treat attending members with the same
courtesy the volunteer would expect for themselves. Kindness begets
kindness and rudeness begets rudeness.
- When you are scheduled for a shift, AnimeFest and your manager
expect you to be there on time and remain for the duration of your
shift.
- If you cannot make your shift, or cannot avoid being late, call
ahead and let the Operations know so that we can work around the problem
so that everyone is treated fairly.
- If you are working a shift and the next person does not show up,
please call Operations and be patient for a solution.
- All staff must abide by the Convention rules.
- AnimeFest, it's staff and volunteers are not responsible for
misplaced, lost or stolen personal items.
Sounds good, what do I do?
